Our People

Directors

John Tortolani is a founding partner of BMT. John earned his Masters in Organizational Behavior from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York and has extensive experience in Public Accounting. Since 1972 John has consulted with over eighty religious institutes and specializes in management issues and real estate matters.

Robert Moody has been a BMT partner since 1991. Bob earned his Masters in Business Administration from Long Island University, New York, and has many years of consulting experience in all areas of investment management. Bob is primarily responsible for BMT's investment consulting services and he also provides financial management oversight to several clients.

Clare Lorenzatti has been a BMT partner since 1996. Clare joined BMT in 1992 after serving as Treasurer for the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Springfield, Massachusetts for nine years. Clare holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from Boston University. Clare was President of the National Association of Treasurers of Religious Institutes (NATRI) and has also served as Acting Executive Director of NATRI from 1992 to 1994 and was a NATRI/NRRO consultant. Clare has considerable experience in long-range planning and financial forecasting. In addition, Clare authored "The Role of the Treasurer" in the NATRI financial management and accounting manual.

Peter Kandel, CPA, joined BMT in August 2003. Peter participates closely with his clients not only on accounting issues, but also in various managerial and consulting roles -- including budgeting, cash flow forecasting, preparation of financial statements and development of accounting controls and policies. Prior to joining BMT, Peter had sixteen years of audit experience with Pannell, Kerr, Forster, a Certified Public Accounting firm in New York specializing in the not-for-profit, hospitality and real estate industries. Peter holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). As of January, 2008, Peter has been appointed a Director.

Karen Francisco, BSA, first joined BMT in 1994 and currently serves numerous clients in the capacity of Controller. Since 2004, she has served as Treasurer on the Executive Board for a Catholic High School. Karen is responsible for coordinating the activities of the Rhode Island office. She also serves as Coordinator of RESAMP health self funded programs for 10 Congregations. As of January, 2008, Karen has been appointed a Director.

Randy Kail, BBA, began his BMT career in 1993 by providing financial oriented services to BMT clients in the Mid Atlantic region. As controller, Randy has five clients that he services on a monthly basis. Randy's additional BMT assignments include investment return analysis and preparation of income taxes. As of January, 2008, Randy has been appointed a Director.

Kelly Murphy, BSA, has served BMT clients in the capacity of controller since 1994. Recently, Kelly has been appointed as the Director of Finance for three clients. She has received additional education and training in a variety of hardware and software products and assists clients in product selection and implementation. Kelly is responsible for developing BMT's Membership Database software. As of January, 2008, Kelly has been appointed a Director.

Management Consultants

Constance Neeson, LSW, joined BMT in July, 2005. She is a Licensed Social Worker in the State of Indiana. Connie's previous employment included 8 1/2 years as a Medicaid caseworker for the Vigo County, Indiana, Division of Family and Children. In 2000, Connie accepted a position with the Sisters of Providence at St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, as Benefit Eligibility Coordinator. Since joining BMT in 2005, Connie's ministry has grown to include supervising our BMT Benefit Eligibility Management team in their role as Benefit Eligibility Coordinators, administering government program eligibility for 20+ religious institutes; providing consulting services to over 100 religious communities; and speaking regularly at the annual RCRI conference (formerly NATRI and LRCR), at gatherings of members of religious institutes, and at CORT workshops. She is the primary author of the Government Programs Resource, published by RCRI (formerly LRCR).

Sr. Linda Orrick, SNJM, joined BMT in 2003 after having served as Treasurer and Director of Finance for the Sisters of Holy Name of Jesus and Mary, Los Gatos, CA, the Sisters of Presentation, San Francisco, CA, and the Sisters of Holy Family, Fremont, CA. She holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, IN. Sr. Linda is the Director of Finance for two BMT clients and is the senior consultant on other engagements. Sr. Linda authored "The Organization of a Finance Office" in the NATRI financial management and accounting manual.

Sr. Grace Sbrissa, CSJ, joined BMT in 2001 after having served as Treasurer and Director of Finance for the Sisters of St. Joseph of La Grange Park, IL and the Racine Dominicans, Racine, WI. As a consultant for Christian Brothers' Educational Data Center, Sr. Grace assisted over 200 Religious Institutes in the process of computerizing their accounting systems. She holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, IN. Sr. Grace was a member of NATRI's Board of Directors and Planning committee, and has been active as a NATRI/NRRO consultant since the inception of those services. Sr. Grace is the Director of Finance for three BMT clients and serves as a senior consultant on other project engagements.

Senior Consultants

Sr. Pam Chiesa, PBVM, MBA, joined BMT in 2011 after serving as President of the Board of Directors for the Sisters of the Presentation, San Francisco, CA, as well as service to the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) Finance and Executive Committees. Sr. Pam has over 20 years experience in nonprofit leadership and financial administration in diverse ministries such as secondary education, retreat centers and as trustee for several charitable trusts. Sr. Pam holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from Golden Gate University, San Francisco, CA. Sr. Pam is a financial administrator for several BMT clients.

Karol Cummins, MBA, began her part time employment with BMT in 1991 and became a fulltime staff member in 1993. Karol currently serves several BMT clients as a controller. She has received additional training in various accounting software products and has used this knowledge to assist clients in selecting and transitioning to new accounting software. Karol has expertise in developing Power Point presentations and has been involved with the research and the reporting aspects of several strategic planning engagements.

Virginia Gladu has over twenty five years of experience working with religious communities. She was a full time employee serving as controller for a religious institute. She began her part-time employment with BMT in 1989 serving as Business Manager and then Treasurer, helping clients with budgeting, forecasting and preparation of financial statements. In 2007, she became a full-time employee overseeing several clients in the New England Area.

Robin Jefferson, MS, began her relationship with BMT in 1986. Robin holds a Masters of Science degree from Long Island University, New York. Robin's professional experience includes employment as Director Human Resources, Payroll and Administrative Services for a religious institute as well as corporate entities. Robin returned to BMT in 2004 and her primary service areas are salary and benefits administration, development of personnel policies and job descriptions, assistance with performance evaluations, and restructuring initiatives.

Noreen Killeen, CPA, joined BMT in 1993, having served for four years as a Senior Staff Accountant with the accounting firm of Pannell, Kerr, Forster, New York. A Certified Public Accountant, Noreen also holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Noreen's primary service area is in the preparation and presentation of internal financial statements. Noreen co-supervises BMT's completion of client's tax returns.

Sr. Eileen Matthews, PBVM, MS, began her employment with BMT in 2006. Prior to her BMT employment, Sr. Eileen served as Treasurer of the Sisters of the Presentation, New Windsor, NY. Sr. Eileen completed the Institute of Church Management Program at Villanova University. Sr. Eileen is a TRENDS consultant.

Kate McDonnell, CPA, joined BMT on a part time basis in 2006. Prior to her BMT employment, Kate worked in public accounting for fourteen years. She has developed a specialty in auditing religious institutes and secondary schools.

Sara Pirello, BBA, began her BMT employment in 1992 and with the completion of her undergraduate degree in 1994 she became a full time staff member. Sara provides service to several clients and has developed a specialty in the accounting and financial reporting related to women's residences. Sara's other responsibilities include analytical work regarding investment manager searches.

Mary Jo Quevado, MBA, joined BMT in 2006 and is a controller for a BMT client. In addition, Mary Jo is responsible for financial reporting for two secondary and elementary schools. Mary Jo's previous work experience was as a financial executive with a public company.

Nadine Veletanga, CPA, joined BMT in 2004 after spending nine years with the firm Pannell, Kerr, Forster, New York, as an audit manager. A Certified Public Accountant, Nadine holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Nadine's primary service responsibilities include preparation and presentation of financial statements for a number of secondary schools and serves as controller for several BMT clients.

Julia Walsh, MBA, joined BMT in 2011. Julia has been working with religious congregations since 1990. Prior to her focus on religious congregations, she spent three years in marketing and business planning for an international accounting/consulting firm. Since 1990, Julia has worked directly with over 90 different congregations. She regularly attends LCWR and RCRI as well as workshops on property development, assisted living, facility management, and aging of religious. Julia holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Illinois.

Government Eligibility Consultants

Karen Boes joined BMT in 2007. Karen was a Medicaid caseworker for five years with the Vigo County, Indiana, Division of Family and Children / Division of Family Resources. Previous to that, Karen worked for five years overseeing compliance with government regulations in the field of Developmental Disabilities.

Cindy McKay, BS, joined BMT in 2005 after spending ten years with the Vigo County, Indiana, Division of Family and Children, working as a Medicaid caseworker. Cindy spent several years as a specialist in Institutional Medicaid. Cindy holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, and also has training in accounting and tax preparation.

Cynthia Schmidt joined BMT in 2008. Cindy had previously worked for both the Vigo County and Parke County offices of the Indiana Division of Family and Children/Division of Family Resources, accumulating a total of 18 years of benefit assistance experience before joining the BMT team of Eligibility Management. Cindy also previously worked for a private contracting firm to screen hospital patients for various benefit programs.

Kathy Tanner joined BMT in 2010. Kathy came to BMT after 19 years working for the Indiana Division of Family and Children / Division of Family Resources. Kathy held positions that included Public Assistance Caseworker, Supervisor, and State Eligibility Consultant. Kathy also previously worked as a Correction Education Coordinator for Indiana State University, overseeing enrollments for onsite college instruction for inmates of the U.S. Federal Prison in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Carol White joined BMT in 2006, having worked twenty years for the Vigo County, Indiana, Division of Family and Children / Division of Family Resources. Carol worked from 1989 to 2003 as a Medicaid caseworker, and then spent 2.5 years working in Quality Assurance for the State of Indiana, ensuring accuracy of caseworker implementation of government benefits.
